Week 9 Difference

The article addresses tokenism during the 1980s. It is now 2021, and this is still a huge issue in white-dominated organizations, groups, and exhibitions around the world.
Tokenism is defined as "the habit of doing something (like as hiring a member of a minority group) solely to avoid criticism and give the impression that individuals are treated equitably."
Tokenism can lead to hiring for the wrong reasons or accomplishing diversity goals in the wrong manner, resulting in little change and no true inclusion. There are a number of things we can do to try to prevent this, including involving various groups. Make roles or employee policies more inclusive of persons who do not belong to your majority culture. This will increase the number of people. Tokenism can lead to the wrong people being hired for the wrong reasons.

When your employees have similar lifestyles, the employment options and benefits available may appear to be comprehensive. But what about the requirements of other ethnicities' lifestyles? What about those with various health issues, family structures, or natural schedules? What about those who require a different holiday schedule? Companies should think about expanding their selection of choose-your-own benefits. This would help people from all walks of life, and it may lead to them finding job with your company.

Instead of attempting to gain respect from their employees, most organizations are attempting to gain recognition for having a diverse workforce. They must begin working to achieve that respect by recognizing and listening to the people whose respect they wish to deserve and whose unique differences they wish to value.
