 Week 1 Introduction Blog


        Hello! my name is Julius. I am a student athlete here at CSU-P and I am Majoring in Graphic Design. When I graduate I plan on using my major to become a Graphic Designer for a clothing company or even start my own clothing company and design the logos/graphics myself. One of my favorite hobbies is drawing. I mainly like to draw digitally now because of the different tools that are available for me to use  to create a awesome piece of artwork. Besides drawing, one of my other passions is football. I play linebacker for CSU-P. Ive been playing football since the third grade. Football has been pretty much my whole life. I am hoping that I will be lucky enough to get a chance to play at the next level after my college career. 

    The artwork that I chose to talk about is from one of my favorite Graphic Designers named Matthew Clayburn. I found his artwork on Instagram when I was in high school. He has designed some really great artwork for a numerous amount of athletes from the college level all the way to the pros. He has worked with some big named NBA athletes like Zion Willamson and Steph Curry.

As a Graphic Designer I think this artwork is beautiful. The man in the artwork is NBA all star Devin Booker. The clean details in the lines and the shadows really make this artwork beautiful. The background is another reason why it is beautiful. The artist could've made it all the same with that purple gradient but decided to cut it off with what looks kind of like a swoosh. I think it helps the subject pop out more and also guides the viewers eyes from the NBA logo and the subjects head all the way down to the shoe at the bottom of the artwork.

The Oppositional Gaze      As an African American male I can relate to some of points made in this article. As a child growing up you just learn when you do something that you're not supposed to be doing your mom will give you that look in her eyes and you'll immediately know that you need to stop. Growing up I thought I was the only person that experienced this until I was older and realized that this happens to many people in other families as well. That look just comes from experience of seeing the parent upset. Another point that I can relate to is how black people are represented in films through stereotypes and are also down graded. In the past black women in films weren't really the "gaze" of films. Films in Hollywood in the past didn't represent black women well at all.  Now we are starting to see more films today where black women have the lead roles and are powerful. Week 8 Authorship

   Week 8 Authorship   As humans, we enjoy learning about what is going on in other people's lives. We achieve this through social media, biographical films, and bios. Reality television is another option. We do this to gain a better understanding of who that person is. For example, we study about an artist's history in order to gain a better grasp of the time period in which they were born so that we may better understand their work. The same is true for musicians, sportsmen, and a variety of other professions. If we want to understand more about a musician, we can look into whether or not they have taken any classes to learn to sing or play an instrument.
